over the hump

It’s been a very speedy week thus far!  It’s been nice to spend the past 2 nights with the hubby and enjoy some much-needed time together!  Work usually gets in the way of my subtle reminders of why I love him so much!

Who couldn’t love this silly man?!

Today was supposed to be spent overseeing a heating guy replace a part in our heater, but the owner of our condo finally wised up or the repair company is very persuasive.  Whatever the case, he decided to replace the entire, outdated unit!  Praise God!  The fixes will occur when all of the parts come in.

The other upside to that is that I could enjoy a morning in the gym!  I didn’t get there until 8 so it was more crowded thanI like it to be.  I started with 20 minutes on the elliptical, then hit Chest and Triceps:

Flat Bench DB Press 10 reps 15# DBs
  10 reps x 2 20# DBs
Bench Dips 12 reps x 3
Flat Bench DB flye 10 reps  10# DBs
  10 reps x 2 15# DBs
Skull Crushers 10 reps x 3 10# DBs
Cable Tricep Pressdown 10 reps x 3 40#
(strangely, on 1 machine I can only go up to 40#, while on another I can press 70#..odd)
Cable Crossovers 10 reps x 3 10# each arm

I finished with another 20 minutes on the elliptical, while constantly listening to my tummy rumble.  Envisioning a yummy batch of protein pancakes, I came home and made the best-looking (well, best-tasting too!) cakes EVER!  I think the key was only heating the pan on low heat.

You can see that I had good intentions to make a crock-pot meal tonight, but a headache kept that from happening.  Instead, Steve suggested Chinese food.. another reason I love him so much!  He knows when I really don’t need to cook.  He ordered his usual pork lo mein.  For me?

Steamed mixed veggies with some stir-fried turkey tenderloin that I had on hand:

No sauce or rice.. just a sprinkle of garlic powder and a dash of low-sodium soy sauce.  Perfection.

In an effort to make it to the gym by 6:30 tomorrow, I must hit the hay now.  Night!

We do it better at 6am

I refer, ahem, to 6am spinning classes.  Wow, did my butt get kicked!  My legs were screaming at the top of their lungs!  I am definitely okay with a 5:15 am wake-up call and I am definitely okay with getting my weight lifting on.  I am, however, not okay with keeping a steady heart rate of 160+ for 45 minutes.  Oy.. I seriously need to work on some endurance!

Before spin class, I worked bi’s and back:

  1. Concentration DB curl: 10 reps x 3 with 15# DBs
  2. Kneeling bench row: 10 reps x 3 with 30# DBs
  3. Cable bicep curl: 10 reps x 3 at 30#
  4. Straight-arm cable pressdown: 10 reps x 2 at 50#; 10 reps at 60#
  5. Sadly, the weights ended there.. I didn’t have enough time before the 6am start time for spinning.

I was super hungry when I returned home.  My pre-workout snack of 2 Suzie’s spelt cakes disappeared quickly.  Whipped up a yummy plate of spinach/mushroom egg white puff + Flat Out & LC + teeny weeny grapes

It hit the spot!   The rest of the morning was half-relaxation/half-laundry with a dash of cleaning.  I had a more normal work schedule today of 1pm-7pm.  I’m hoping this will last because it allows me to be at home to make my hubby some dinner.  That’s not a luxury that we get more than once or twice a week.  Yeah, it stinks, especially because I love to cook!  Before work, I noshed on some Flat Out wrap goodness.

Flat Out with LC, curly leaf spinach & Morningstar Chick’n Strips Meal Starters + a gala

These things –  are muy bueno!  Just be careful not to over-nuke them or they become super chewy.  I learned that lesson the hard way.

The gym tonight was insanely busy for a Tuesday.  Clearly, the “resolutioners” are still sticking with it!  I came home to a warm heating blanket to cuddle in before making spaghetti!
Dessert also hit the spot.

Light Rye Wasa + Walden Farms Calorie-Free Caramel Dip + hot cocoa with Unsweetened Almond Breeze

Dr. House is waiting for me to watch his shenanigans from last night.  I must not keep him waiting!

Early workouts and Chocolate cheerios

I had the earliest workout ever this morning.  It was fabulous; the gym was quiet;  I was pumped!

Overhead Shoulder Press 15# DBs 10 x 2
  20# DBs 10
3-minute jog

I came home to a yummy breakfast – Egg white puff with broccoli & mushrooms + Flat Out with PB2 and SF cherry preserves + pineapple & clemmy

I was very, very happy to also see an email in my inbox that led me to this:

My life just improved about 10-fold! Even with the corn syrup, I can’t hide  my excitement.  May lightning strike me..

Go Vikings!

Currently, they’re up 14 to 7, but it’s only just begun..

It’s been another great weekend!  I just love actually having these 2 days off.. I could definitely get used to this.  I spent most of yesterday relaxing, after an early workout, of course.  It felt so good, after 2 rest days, to return to the gym for a hardcore session.  It looked a little something like this:

Squat with bicep curl 15# DBs 10 x 3
Chest press with skull crusher 10# DBs 10 x 3
Bench hop overs   30 seconds x 3
Stiff-legged deadlift with Row 40# BB 10 x 3
Reverse lunge 40# BB 10 x 3
Mountain climbers   30 seconds x 3
Lunge on Bosu with lateral raise 8# DBs 10 x 3 each leg
Bosu pushups    10 x 3
Bosu hop overs   30 seconds x 3

I sandwiched it with 20 minutes of intervals on the elliptical and was wiped!  Breakfast called, so I headed home to make hubby some eggs and relax for a bit.  We had good intentions of going to see the Imax 3d Avatar flick, but it was sold out!  After being open so many weeks, we were stunned.. and disappointed.  So we appeased ourselves at Uno’s!  Steve enjoyed their turkey, bacon and swiss sandwich (on bread that rocked my face).  I had the spinach, chicken & gorgonzola salad, minus most of the gorgonzola and the glazed nuts.  It rocked harder than Steve’s pretzel bread.  We walked our lunch off through the mall and were, again, shocked at how many people were out!  I’ve never seen the mall so crowded, except at the holidays!

The rest of the day was spent relaxing.. but shouldn’t all weekends be that way?  Today started with a breakfast at The Broken Egg and another gym visit for Leg Day!

Leg Curl 60# 10 reps
  65# 10 reps
  70# 8 reps
Leg Press 70# 12 reps
  90# 12 reps
  110# 12 reps
Calf Press 110# 15 reps x 3
Bulgarian Split Squat 10# DBs 10 reps x 3 each leg
Bosu Hop Overs   30 seconds x 3

Body hate.

Normally, that might mean that I am having a bad self-esteem day, but oh no… it’s been the opposite this week.  Instead of hating my body, my body has been quite upset with me.  If there were ever a time that I was 100% convinced that I had pushed too hard, it would be now.

I can’t remember my last full-rest day and I can feel it!  Let me back up:

I’ve incorporated circuit training/whole-body training into my gym time as opposed to targeting one muscle group.  I did this last Wednesday, Friday, Sunday and this Tuesday.  On other days, I did targeted weight training and yesterday, I felt so guilty about not getting in gym time that I did 1 hour of cardio only.  I thought that it would add a bit of pep in my step, but yesterday afternoon only got worse!  I could barely stay awake at work and, on my break, I even considered a nap!  Sad..

So today is REST DAY!  I slept in until 8:30 – something very unusual for me!  I’m enjoying a broccoli/mushroom egg white puff with a flat out and something new that came in yesterday’s mail:

My PB2 verdict?  I LOVE it!  It’s got a great PB flavor and isn’t too sweet at all!  Granted, it is a little extra work to mix with water, but it’s worth it to save on the fat!  I haven’t yet tried the Rock N Roll shakes, but that’s on tomorrow’s agenda.  I’ll be sure to offer my thoughts!  I found these at Linda’s Diet Delites and they have a few other things that I am interested in trying.

Other eats today –

I finally cut up the Sam’s pineapple and was not disappointed – super sweet and delicious!  I feel a pina colada shake is in order..

I worked an odd shift at the gym today so I’m about to pop a bag of Smart Pop for dinner, with a handful of Soy Crisps for a bit of protein.

Rest days are good!

It’s Monday..

Ugh.  I really, really don’t like Mondays.  I especially dislike them when they follow a wonderful weekend!

We spent yesterday doing things that I love to do – having breakfast with Steve’s parents at my favorite – Broken Egg; seeing a movie with a big group of friends that I don’t see often enough; getting a good workout in; enjoying dinner & football with my husband.  It was awesome!

As mentioned, we went to see The Book of Eli.  Coming from a Christian background, I was extremely touched by the movie and the conclusion.  I won’t ruin it, but it is on my list of “Must-See Movies.”  Granted, there is quite a bit of gore/death, but it had a remarkable story line.

I hit the gym right after the movie and got in a very quick, but effective, workout.  I only had 1 hr and 15 minutes until they closed so I did some intense elliptical time to warm up (2 1/2 miles in 20 minutes).  I completed a few circuits from the top of my head and cooled down with 15 more elliptical minutes.  I do love that machine, don’t I?  It’s so much easier on my knee than the treadmill.

I had mentioned Plaza for Mexican food for dinner a few days back, but I was just not feeling it.  I made it up to Steve by suggesting Subway, which is always a hit.  After a dinner of Chicken and Baby Spinach salad (thrown into a Flat Out wrap), we watched the taped Vikings/Cowboys game and the Golden Globes.  Love, love, love looking at the dresses and hairstyles.  I envy those celebrities for being able to wear such amazing gowns on a regular basis!

I got another good workout in this morning.  Warmed up for 20 minutes on the… wait for it… elliptical.  I’ve done lots of circuits recently, so decided to target my triceps and shoulders today:

  1. Overhead press: 10 reps x 3 with 15# dumbells
  2. Tricep extension: 10 reps x 3 with 10# dumbells
  3. Lateral raises: 10 reps x 3 with 10# dumbells
  4. Cable tricep pressdown: 10 reps at 60#; 10 reps at 70#; 8 reps at 80#
  5. Front raises: 10 reps x 3 with 10# dumbells
  6. Tricep kickbacks: 10 reps x 3 with 10# dumbells

Cool down on the elliptical for 10 minutes and called it quits!  I came home to a breakfast out of my ordinary egg pillow –

Vanilla Chobani and a nice warm mug of Diet Swiss Miss.  I love a good cup of hot chocolate now and again 🙂

I’m having lunch with my family at Surf Rider (a local, yummy seafood place), then working a long shift at the gym today.  See you soon!

Hi Ya’ll!

Hiya! I'm Heidi, a 28-year-old "retired" student living in Virginia. I am a newlywed and currently on the hunt for a full-time job that will use either my Biology or Secondary Education degree. In the meantime, I work in retail and at an event venue part-time. When I'm not working, I love to kill hours at the gym, scrapbook, and act as a domesticated diva to keep my hubby happy!
